Monthly Tip ~ Accessorize

Be playful! Whether for portrait, boudoir or your wedding day photos, have fun! Accessories are a great way to spice up an ensemble and can make for great props for your session.

Boudoir: Think sassy. A great pair of heels can make all the difference. The taller the better.  Stay away from chunky shoes… they don’t have quite the same effect as stilettos. Don’t forget the stockings, always a provocative touch! Jewelry is a good thing. It doesn’t have to be diamonds and pearls, although you can’t go wrong with either. I love layers. Combining multiple necklaces of all sizes can be a great way to conceal just enough without having to wear a top. Hats can do the same, and add a bit of drama to your photos.

Bridal Boudoir: If you are doing this as a gift for your husband-to-be, don’t forget all of the important details that you have worked so hard at coordinating for your special day… your veil, something blue, of course your jewelry, and especially what won’t be seen by others… your bridal and honeymoon lingerie : )

Wedding Day: These days brides and grooms are looking to personalize their event… show off their personalities. More and more, couples are working around a theme for their day. This means accessorizing. Details are playing a key role in helping them stand apart from the rest.

Brides: From your veil to your shoes ,and the important things in-between is a statement about you. Veils, headpieces and vintage hats can be so sexy. What a fantastic way to add the finishing touches. I also love it when a bride surprises me with a sassy pair of shoes. Jewel adorned, vibrantly colored or leopard print pairs of heels are fun… even a pair of Chuck Taylor’s or cowboy boots… Yeah, that’s what I’m talk’n about!

Grooms: I am so happy to say that more grooms are becoming as hands on as the bride is when it comes to planning and accessorizing. Cufflinks are a great place to start. You can find so many personalized cufflinks on the web (they make for great groomsmen gifts too). Grooms are even breaking free of  traditional dress shoes and opting for the more casual look with Chucks or sandals. A nice accessory for a groom (depending on the attire, and atmosphere of the wedding) is a pocket watch. I’ve come across a few while shooting. Some are passed down from generations before, some are new, and others are really great used finds. Either way, they are a fun prop to have while photographing the man of the day.
